FOR PARENTS

Our goal is to provide your child with an experience unlike any they've had before! Be reassured that as certified instructors we have been trained to manage the risks of rock climbing and can facilitate a place where kids can learn and experience personal growth, the thrill of adventure and camaraderie in a safe environment.

FAQs

What is the Flow of a Typical ClimbingDay?

9:00am  Meet at the YMCA for Grand Marais kids. Paperwork and gear fitting.

9:30am  Load up and head to the climbing destination. Most of our best cliffs are about 45min  to an hour south on Hwy 61. We will pick up any kids from Silver Bay at the new North Shore Adventure Park (the old Spur gas station on 61) on the way to the climbing destination.

10:00am  A short bit of hiking is usually required to get to the cliffs.

10:30/11:00am  After some set-up, we climb! Throughout the day we intersperse lessons about climbing skills. Students will bring their own lunches and can eat them while they rest between climbs.

2:30pm  Last climbs, wrap-up, clean up.

3:00pm  Hike back to the van.

4:00/5:00pm  Return to the YMCA for drop-off. (Times vary depending on location)

What should my kids bring climbing?

-A small pack t carry their own food, outerwear etc.

-Lunch, snacks and plenty of water (please let Matthew know if they have any allergies before the trip)

-Hat and sunglasses

-Sunscreen and bug spray (They will be outside all day!)

-Appropriate non-bulky footwear for hiking and climbing. (ex: Tennis shoes)    No open toe shoes please!

-Comfortable clothing, rain gear and a light jacket if it is cool or windy

How Does Communication Work between Parents and Guides?

CHAPERONES

To keep costs down we are looking for parent chaperones to volunteer to join us for a trip absolutely free of charge. Chaperones must be willing to help supervise the kids and be ready to be outside all day.
